About the Event
Re-claiming the cultural self: storytelling and the wounded healer
Session Description
This presentation will demonstrate the bridge between "thickened stories" as reflected in narrative therapy, and how this interacts with the concept of embracing personhood in the person-of-the-therapist clinical training model. Namely, the value of embracing an expansive view of the sociocultural self will be discussed, both in the sense of enhancing non-western vantage points on what it means to be a therapist, and also the utility of POTT in enhancing one's therapy skills.
Learning Objectives:
- The utility of therapist's considering themselves as cultural beings and how this is promoted by the POTT model
- How to approach "re-authoring" personal stories to go along with the development of one's POTT signature theme
- How to consider the "re-authored" cultural self "in the moment" of therapeutic sessions, to make use of the concept of "utilization of self" inside the POTT model.
